Well, felt I had to drop a quick post on a couple of things that you already know, everyone basically has an informative post about them so I will not try to duplicate. First, Apple makes another iPod splash and Google Reader just doubled its value.
1. Yesterday, Apple did not disappoint (well at least they didn’t disappoint me). [Disclaimer: I own shares.] Apple is coming out with a few new versions of the iPod just in time for the holiday season to rev up. The video Ipod nano, two larger/cheaper iPod classics and the iPod Touch. Obviously the big news was that Apple now offers its customers almost all of the great UI, technology and capabilities of the iPhone without the phone. My personal opinion is the best value at the moment is the 80 Gb and 160 Gb video iPod classic. That will be what I’m buying. Here is my reasoning, while you don’t get the fantastic interface and “coolness” of the Touch, you get great value simply in the amount of capacity in the classic model at $299. More than enough space for your songs, a number of movies and a good set of podcasts, what else. I am a happy Blackberry Curve user so I don’t need the WiFi and I don’t tend to loiter at Starbucks so that piece of functionality will not come in handy for me. I’m sure there will be many to disagree with me but I’m going with the value buy right now.
2. The second announcement of the day (or I guess you could say early today) was Google announcing the addition of search to Google Reader. This is a long-overdue addition. They finally done it so I won’t labor on the point of how Google (a search company) could have an RSS reader without search capability. Okay, I said it, had to be done. Anyway, Google Reader has been my dominant reader that I use on a daily basis. The addition of the search capability makes it a research and productivity tool for me as well. Google already had a #1 position in the RSS reader space and I only see increased momentum in widening the lead. The element I find interesting is how quickly the Google monetization engine hits Google reader with Adwords. My sense is that it won’t be long.
one day, two fantastic developments…
